SHORT COURSE ON MEDICAL GEOLOGY
Health and Earth - Building a Safer Environment
Coordinator: José A. Centeno
This Short Course is under the auspices of
4th International Conference on Medical Geology (GEOMED-2011)
International Medical Geology Association (IMGA)
International Union of Geological Sciences – Commission on Geoscience for Environmental Management (IUGS-GEM)
THE SCOPE of this Short Course on Medical Geology is to share the most recent information on the relationship between impacts of toxic metals, trace elements, natural dust, on environmental quality and public health. The scientific topics include areas in environmental toxicology, environmental pathology, epidemiology, geochemistry, as well as the extent, patterns and consequences of exposures to toxic metal ions and deficiency of trace elements in the natural environment. Emphasis will be placed on describing the geochemistry, toxicology and health effects of natural geogenic dust, risk assessment studies, and modern analytical trends of particular application to medical geology.
HOW TO GET TO BARI DOWNTOWN FROM THE AIRPORT
The Airport is about 12 km away from Bari downtown. Taking a taxi is the fastest and easiest way to get to Bari but it is also the most expensive (25-30 euro). Otherwise, you can catch two public buses which go to the Central Railway Station:

- the Airport Shuttle (departure at each flight arrival; € 4.15).
HOW TO GET TO THE VENUE
The Short Course on Medical Geology will be held at the Sheraton Conference Centre. From the Railway Central Station, you can get to the Sheraton Conference Center on the bus n. 40 (stop at the bus terminus) + bus n. 6 (the bus stop at 50 m from the Venue). Tickets can be purchased in newspaper and tobacco kiosks (€0.90; valid 75 minutes). Ask for the bus stop nearest the Sheraton Hotel.
