The Organizing Committee will be pleased to send an invitation letter upon request to the participants registered. Such a letter should only be intended as a help to get a visa or raise travel funds, not as a commitment on the part of the organizers to provide any financial support. Please send your request to the GEOMED 2011 Secretariat (secretariat@geomed2011.it) specifying your name, institution, postal address and fax number to which the invitation letter should be sent.

Passport/Visa

Any foreign visitors wishing to enter the Italian Republic must have an Identity Card (UE citizens) or a valid passport (non-EU citizens). Someone may need a Visa before coming. How to get to Bari and the Conference Centre

Arrival by Plane - Several airlines fly to Bari (Karol Wojtyla Airport), including low cost companies, and a lot of daily flights from the two Italian hubs – Rome and Milan – reach this airport. Please visit the Airport web site for more information and book your flight early to get the ticket at the best price.
The Airport is about 12 km away from Bari downtown. Taking a taxi is the fastest and easiest way to get to Bari but it is also the most expensive (25-30 euro). Otherwise, you can catch two public buses which go to the Central Railway Station:
- the urban bus n. 16 (every 50 minutes). You can buy your public bus ticket in the airport (at the newspaper kiosk; ticket cost: € 0.90) or on the bus (€ 1.50);
- the Airport Shuttle (departure at each flight arrival; € 4.15).
From the Railway Central Station, you can get to the Sheraton Conference Center on the bus n. 40 (stop at the bus terminus) + bus n. 6 (the bus stop at 50 m from the Venue). Tickets can be purchased in newspaper and tobacco kiosks (€ 0.90; valid 75 minutes).

Arrival by Train - Long-distance trains arrive at the Railway Central Station. You can get to the Sheraton Conference Center on the bus n. 40 (stop at the bus terminus) + bus n. 6 (the bus stop at 50 m from the Venue). Tickets can be purchased in newspaper and tobacco kiosks (€ 0.90; valid 75 minutes).

Arrival by Car - From the Beltway (Circumvallazione), both from Notrh and South directions, take the exit n. 11 (Poggiofranco): the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Centre is at about 250 m.

Arrival by Boat - Bari is the destination for ferries incoming from the Greek port of Patra and Igoumenitsa.There are also ships from Bar and Kotor (Montenegro), Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Durrës (Albania). Ferry operators are either Superfast Ferries, Blue Star Ferries, Azzurraline or Jadrolinija. Detailed information is given on this web page.
